What is the sameAs property?

sameAs is a Schema.org property that links an entity on your page to other pages that unambiguously identify the same entity, such as its Wikipedia page, Wikidata entry, official website or social profiles.

Why sameAs matters

It helps search engines connect your website and your official profiles as one entity. Google's Organization structured data guide recommends sameAs for pages on other websites with more information about your organization, such as social media or review profiles.

How sameAs works

  • It sits inside Organization, Person or LocalBusiness markup as one URL or a list of URLs.
  • Each URL should point to a page that is clearly about the same entity.
  • When names are shared, these links give search engines extra evidence of which entity a page means.

How to apply it

  1. List your official profiles, such as LinkedIn, YouTube, your Google Business Profile and a Wikidata item if you have one.
  2. Use the same list on your home page and About page.
  3. Remove links to profiles you no longer control.

Example

A consultant's About page marks up the consultant as a Person with sameAs links to their LinkedIn, YouTube and podcast pages, connecting them as one entity.

Common mistake

Adding links to pages about someone else with the same name, which points systems to the wrong entity.
